Our governing body is an elected group who represent views and interests across your local community. The Instrument of Government is the document that records the name of the school and the constitution of its governing body. Instrument of Government 2015
At Victoria Park Nursery School we have;
Two Parent Governors
One Local Authority Governor
One Staff Governor
One Head Teacher
Four Co-opted Governors
One Associate Governor
Governors take part in a comprehensive induction programme and regular training to keep their knowledge and skills up to date. All governors perform these duties on a voluntary basis.
The full governing body generally meet monthly to address key issues, set strategic direction, review policies and act as a critical friend.
Specifically the governors will:
Provide a Strategic View
Decide what the school should achieve
Set suitable aims and framework needed
Agree and review policies
Set and monitor the budget
Deal quickly and professionally with any complaints or concerns
Explain decisions and actions taken
Challenge, ask questions and seek information to improve standards
Monitor and evaluate provision
Be familiar with the school through visits and taking part in school life
Develop sound working relationships with the staff
Non-staff governors visit Nursery on a regular basis, and have the opportunity to get involved in key events and activities throughout the year.
Governors are elected for a four year term of office, with elections held for the Chair and Vice Chair positions every two years. Parent governors are elected by parents of children attending the nursery, and staff governors are elected by Nursery staff. Co-opted governors may apply to become governors directly to the school, and once satisfactory checks have been completed, are voted on by the governing body. Local Authority governors are placed with the school by the Council’s Governor Services team as and when a vacancy arises. Associate members are also invited to join the governing body.
